ISRM/Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Supervisory Management in Sport and Recreation
Introduction
The ISRM SUPERVISORY MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE leads to The Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Supervisory Management in Sport and Recreation and is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework.
This qualification is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to deal with theperformance of other staff, the well-being and safety of customers, as well as the day-to day operation of the sport and recreation facility.
Target Candidates
• Adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the Sport and Recreation as duty manager or supervisor
• Sport and recreation organisations with a need to train their staff to an agreed nationally recognised standard with a particular desire to improve both the current industry knowledge of staff and the service they are able to offer their customers.
• Individuals currently undertaking the supervisory role who would like to have their knowledge and experience recognised by a formal qualification..
• Individuals who are aspiring to supervisory management roles in sport and recreation facilities and services, who need to extend their knowledge and develop the relevant skills.
Entry Requirements
There are no specific pre-requisite qualifications but candidates should have at least 2 years appropriate industry experience and be working towards duty manager levels of supervision.
Qualification Structure
This qualification comprises three mandatory units:
Unit 1 – Employment Practice in Sport and Recreation
Unit 2 – Finance and Administration of Sport and Recreation
Unit 3 – Sports Services Operations
Successful achievement of all three units must be achieved for the full qualification.
Unit 1 – Employment Practice in Sport and Recreation
This unit covers:
• The laws of employment
• The employment role of the duty officer
• Recruitment and selection process
• Induction, appraisal and training of staff
• Effective management of staff
• Theories of motivation, leadership and teamwork
• Getting people to work (well!)
• How to work effectively with customers both internal and external
Assessment
Assessment is by Externally set Assignment which is internally assessed using standardised marking criteria supplied by Active IQ.
Unit 2 – Finance and Administration of Sport and Recreation
This unit covers:
• Administrative structure of sport and recreation
• Administrative role of the duty officer
• The decision making process
• Marketing
• Reception administration
• Contract law and purchasing
• Sources of funding for sport and recreation
• Funding and budgetary control
Assessment
Assessment is by Externally set Assignment which is internally marking using standardised marking criteria supplied by Active IQ.
Unit 3 – Sports Services Operations
This unit covers:
• The role and responsibilities of a duty officer
• The relevant legislation and its effect on sport and recreation
• Operational Systems
• Maintenance and cleaning of buildings and equipment
• Programming and development
Assessment
Assessment is 1500 word assignment which is externally set by Active IQ and marked by Active IQ.
Progression
This qualification provides progression to
• This qualification provides progression to NVQ Level 3 in Leisure Management for candidates who wish to develop and demonstrate occupational competence in the work place
• Candidates may also broaden their knowledge and skills by progressing to other ISRM or Active IQ programmes
